but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Derek was born in Elgin and brought up in Fife where he spent some years working as a greenkeeper before feeling God’s call into some form of special Christian service.

He and his wife Carol took diplomas in Christian studies, before moving to Bath to help in a church there as volunteer full-time church workers. It was there he felt called to train for the ministry and went to study at the London Bible College where he took a BA Hons in Theology. Since then he has had ministries in West Sussex and, latterly, at a Baptist church in Rochester in Kent.

He comes to Lochgilphead with pastoral experience behind him and looks forward to helping the Baptist church to maintain its specific Christian witness in the town, as this church plays its part along with the other churches in the area, in ensuring that the Christian faith remains relevant to Mid Argyll in the 21st Century.

He said: ‘I’m just looking forward to being part of the community and sharing God’s love with people.’

Derek and his wife Carol have two children, Sarah and Jonathan.

When not seen in and around the church, it could be that Derek will be spied on the golf course, or tramping over the hills with the family - Argyll weather permitting!
