but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Update - May 2014

New Church Extension Project

What do you do when you come to the end of a long, successfully completed journey? Collapse in a heap or go to a party? Both probably. That is more or less our experience, now that the building of our New Church Extension is finished and our four year journey is over.

The keys of the building were handed over to us on Thursday 8th May and suddenly this fine new building was ours to use. We more or less tip-toed into the building, in through the wide curved spacious entrance, along the carpeted foyer past the luxurious “loos” and the space-craft-looking lift to the upper floor, into the former small hall (now integrated into the main church by a folding acoustic screen) and through into the new stainless steel kitchen, with a glance at the newly decorated and floored main church. Then it was upstairs, to look at the three rooms there – the quiet room/minister’s vestry, the room designed for children’s art and crafts with its low sink and cupboards and the small multi- purpose hall with its strong glass screen at one end forming part of a light-well down into the lower hall. Was all this “ours” , we asked ourselves?

The answer to that question is both “yes” and “no”. “Yes”, in the sense that we are funding the build, with some help from Trusts, other Baptist Churches in Scotland and the cooperation of the Baptist Union Corporation. “No”, in the sense that we believe this is a building dedicated to God for His use in our town. So, tip-toeing our way in to it was a bit more appropriate than marching in with a triumphant pair of heavy boots on.

As far as the town is concerned, the “new church building” is a local talking point, with people keen to see what it is like inside. An opportunity will be given for this
to happen every day during the week beginning 19
th May.

The Official Opening Day will be on Saturday 24th May at 3pm and if you are in the area, you are welcome to come and join us. Perhaps we will post an extra final update on the web following this occasion.

There are so many people to thank – people who gave, people who prayed, people who showed interest. Perhaps, however, we ought to register special thanks to Craig Govan of McLean Architects Ltd, Glasgow, who designed this most attractive, quality building and M&K MacLeod’s, the local building contractor, whose team of builders worked all through the wet days of the past winter to enable us to realize our dream.

Now it is on to seeing the building being used in ways that will demonstrate to the community around us that, as a Church, we reach out to all with the love of God in Christ and witness in word and deed to this splendid life-saving and life-giving Good News.
